Alice Fields Community Center
Mrs. Alice Fields
Alice Fields was a mother of 7 and a fierce activist, organizing with her community to ensure that all children received an equitable public education. Later in life, she became a matriarch of sorts, well known in her NYC Upper West Side community for helping residents, especially children. She became everybody’s mother and eventually grandmother. Where someone needed help, she had a hand to lend.
She believed deeply in compassion and often nurtured those others had given up on. She left an impressive legacy of activism, love, resilience, and courage. Alice lived the life she wanted when the cost was extremely high for Black women, and we honor her spirit and life in this space by doing the same.

Freedom Boutique .
The Freedom Boutique, offered through the AFCC, is a Black feminist closet that provides free clothing to community members. More than just a closet, it’s a space of empowerment and solidarity where individuals can find clothes that resonate with their identity, support self-expression, and build confidence. Here, we honor personal style as a reflection of belonging, resilience, and community pride.
