Cardamom & Thyme Cafe
Our core mission is to combat food injustice and insecurity while fostering civic engagement and radical community building using a seasonal farm to table model. We use an inclusive payment strategy that utilizes traditional funding dollars, volunteerism and sweat equity, ensuring that everyone has the ability to eat quality nutrient dense food regardless of their ability to pay.
Serving The South Bronx
Our cafe implements solutions by offering a sliding scale for meals based on individual contributions and volunteer work hours. We also host food workshops and community events that engage residents in civic discussions and empower them with knowledge about nutrition and local food systems.
Our team comprises experienced chefs, community organizers, and advocates for social justice. Their diverse backgrounds enhance operations by ensuring quality food preparation, effective community engagement, and strategic planning for events that align with our mission.
Within the first year, we aim to establish the cafe as a recognized community hub, launch a series of food workshops, achieve a minimum of 200 regular volunteers, and serve ready-to-heat meals to at least 100 families per week.
